Event | Soup and Talk 2022 on January 22nd

The Soup & Talk 2022 good food and good farming slam is happening via Zoom on Saturday, January 22nd from 17:00 to 20:00 CET.  The much-loved Soup and Talk event traditionally takes place at the Heinrich-Böll-Foundation, Berlin, with inspiring agri-food initiatives and hot soup welcoming hundreds of freezing demonstrators in out of the cold after Europe’s biggest protest for a better food system. This year, you don’t have to weather the elements to join in – people all over the world are invited to attend the virtual event. Registration is free.

“Everyone is talking about transformation. We have already started!”

This is the slogan of Soup and Talk 2022, the annual think-in on food and farming issues that brings together game-changing agri-food initiatives to share their stories with the world. It’s happening this Saturday, January 22nd from 17:00 – 20:00 CET via Zoom

NEW – Full Progamme

The food and farming slam usually takes place after the Wir haben es satt (We are Fed up) demonstration in Berlin when thousands of protestors take to the streets to speak out against industrial agriculture.

As Soup and Talk is online again this year (rather than in Berlin’s Heinrich Böll building as in pre-pandemic times) you will encounter great projects from all over the world and have the opportunity to network in small breakout rooms.

Saturday’s Soup and Talk will see seed activists from Mexico, urban farmers from Hong Kong, young farmers from Germany, neighbourhood cooks from South Africa and many more presenters coming together to show how they are pushing forward agricultural transformation.

The Soup and Talk format is unique – presentations consist of just images or videos and are only five minutes long. Every 5 minutes, one project follows the next and the inspiration cauldron really comes to the boil. With good translations in both English and German and the chance to chat with presenters in breakout rooms, this makes for an engaging and comfortable affair.

ARC2020 at Soup and Talk 2022

Again this year ARC2020 features in the Soup and Talk programme with Valérie Geslin and Louise Kelleher presenting ‘France: Harvesting Cooperative Approaches’. They will talk about ARC’s visits to farms all over France to hear from rural stakeholders engaged in the socio-ecological transition. These exchanges are part of “Nos campagnes en résilience” which seeks to support and learn from people that are helping to build resilience in French rural communities: elected representatives, restaurants, citizens – who are experimenting and exploring the alternative reality of bottom-up solutions.

In particular the farmers that ARC2020 has met have to contend with the climate, biodiversity and COVID crises, and societal changes, as well as struggling to earn a living. Yet, they are inventing their own solutions to these problems – which they are happy to share, while acknowledging that they don’t have all the answers.

In their presentation Louise and Valérie will share the great hope and inspiration to be found in the actions of these farmers: the caring role of the farmer, the desire to earn a dignified living from their work (not from subsidies), and to leave a proud legacy for future generations.
