Following the ‘Wir haben es Satt’ demonstration in Germany on 21st January which saw 23,000 people take to the streets in Berlin, its seems that public action and demand for a new agricultural and food policy in Europe is strengthening.
The success of the first event this year has resulted in two additional demonstrations taking place this March. Last Saturday (March 17th) in Amsterdam (separate article to follow) and this coming Friday (March 30th) in Vienna.
The event in Vienna is supported by a wide range of organisations which can be seen on the flyer opposite. As with the German event, the organisers are highlighting the negative impacts of the agricultural industry in Europe such as dioxin scares, genetic engineering in food, animal suffering in mega stables, exacerbated hunger crises, climate change and a loss of biodiversity.
The event will begin at 10am this Friday outside the Lebensministerium.
For more information see the full flyer here or visit the the websites of one of the organisers, for example Global2000 (the Austrian branch of Friends of the Earth).
There is also a facebook page for this event.
